Pamela Nagle’s Story

Pamela Nagle – Port Elgin, Kincardine and Area

A diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease can certainly slow you down due to the multiple symptoms that those living with Parkinson’s have to deal with every day.  But Shawn Nagle of Port Elgin wasn’t going to let his diagnosis affect him and his boating business, Aqua Manufacturing and Marine.  He and his wife Pamela were doing a great job keeping it afloat since his diagnosis in 2010.  In 2014, all that changed with the discovery that Shawn had serious lung issues which eventually forced them to shut down.

Now, Shawn and Pamela pursue other interests, including WALK-IT for Parkinson’s.  They first got involved in the walk in 2010 by attending the event in Owen Sound.  Recently, they have participated in the Port Elgin event and have a great time each year. “It’s wonderful to see the money raised stay in our area,” said Pamela.  “You just never know when the money raised at events like WALK-IT for Parkinson’s could lead to a major discovery that could help people living with Parkinson’s all over the world.”

Pamela enjoyed the event so much that she joined the local volunteer organizing committee, helping out wherever she can.  “I really enjoy helping to make the event happen knowing that people will come out, meet others with Parkinson’s, and have a great time with their friends and family,” said Pamela.

The funds raised at events like WALK-IT for Parkinson’s helps Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario continue to provide local programs and services for people with Parkinson’s and their families. “I encourage anyone to join us at WALK-IT for Parkinson’s to meet others dealing with the disease and to help raise money to fund cures and treatments,” said Pamela.
